Mischa Barton expected back at work after hospital release

British-born actress Mischa Barton is expected to return to work after being released from a hospital in Los Angeles.

Released: troubled Mischa Barton is set to go back to work

The 23-year-old former star of hit TV show The OC was removed from her home earlier this month by officers and taken to a clinic suffering from an undisclosed medical problem.

It has been widely reported in the US that the star was transported to a psychiatric centre for treatment after being detained involuntarily by police.

Craig Schneider, a spokesman for the star, said Barton was now "out of hospital and continuing to improve". He added that she intended "resuming production as planned" on her new TV series The Beautiful Life.

It follows encouraging statements from executive producer of the show, actor Ashton Kutcher, over the weekend. Kutcher said Barton was "doing great" and denied rumours that they were looking to replace her in the show.

He added that the Anglo-American actress will be flying to New York shortly to join cast and crew members. Filming is due to start on Friday.

Concerns over Barton's health surfaced after officers arrived at her address on July 15. Neither the actress's representatives nor Los Angeles Police Department have revealed what the problem was.
