Since they first began dating in 2005, they have been pictured on a level and with one or the other towering.
Most believe the fluctuations are so great that they cannot be explained away merely by Miss Holmes's choice of heel.
The couple are seen attending the premiere of Cruise's latest film Lions for Lambs in Los Angeles on Thursday evening.

Last night Katie was again towering over her man at New York restaurant Cipriani
The actor, 44, appears to have a distinct edge on the woman he married on November 18 last year.
But as they stepped out for a second screening of the film in New York on Sunday, she is definitely taller.
Perhaps on this occasion Miss Holmes was showing the effects of a runner's high.
Earlier in the day the mother of one had completed the New York Marathon.
Disguised in a baseball cap, she joined 39,000 competitors on the 26-mile course. She finished in five-and-a-half hours.
