Mission: Impossible for 'too big' Cruise to fit into wedding suit
15 November 2006
Designer Giorgio Armani has made outfits for Cruise and Katie Holmes, who are due to marry this weekend in an Italian castle.
The clothes were delivered yesterday to the couple's £2,500-night-penthouse suite at the Hassler Hotel on the Spanish Steps in Rome. But within hours Italian news website TGcom quoted insiders saying the actor, 44, was "having trouble getting into his suit as he was slightly overweight".
Cruise flew into Rome from California on Monday in a private jet with 10 staff. A commercial jet arrived with another 40 assistants.
He and actress Holmes, 27, will marry on Saturday at Odescalchi Castle on Lake Bracciano, north of Rome. Local papers reported they were due in Bracciano town today for a rehearsal.
The cost of the event is estimated at £5 million and there will be two ceremonies. Number one would have the blessing of the state authorities.
Number two is reputed to be a Scientology affair involving cat-stroking and strange incantations.
Fellow Scientologists John Travolta and Kelly Preston have been invited, as have Steven Spielberg plus Michael Douglas and his wife Catherine Zeta Jones.
