Nimby Clooney takes on Italians

Hollywood star George Clooney is leading a campaign against building work near his Italian lakeside £3million home, Villa Oleandra, at Laglio on Lake Como, which was used to shoot scenes for his Oceans Twelve film.

Clooney and other residents are furious with local mayor Guiseppe Mantoro's plans to develop the area with a parking lot and bridge.

Clooney said: "These proposals are in every probability just to exploit the fact that I live here."

Two years ago Clooney pulled out of a deal to buy the beach in front of his villa after locals complained they would have no access to Lake Como.

Other stars with lakeside homes include fashion designer Donatella Versace and Virgin chief Richard Branson.
