Alcohol-free: Britney has shed 10lb so far

We're told: "Britney realised that things had to change in her lifestyle if she was ever going to have a chance to claw back her crown. She has been working out for months now to keep in shape, you'll often see her going to the gym.

"Her appearance at this year's MTV video awards really gave her a boost and the confidence to continue with her plan of getting her life back on track.

"And that's why she has decided to give up drinking alcohol, because not only does it cause weight gain but she wants to be on the ball. Britney has lost 10Ib since giving up her one remaining vice, which obviously she is ecstatic about."

What a difference a year makes. Britney had been the subject of ridicule after her very public meltdown. At last year's MTV Video Music Awards (VMA), she appeared overweight and was criticised for a shambolic dance routine accompanying her track Gimme More. But earlier this month she was greeted with a standing ovation from the audience at the VMAs.

Although she did not perform, her polished appearance was enough to make a few members of the star-studded audience emotional.

Our source added: "Britney feels that she has hit her target weight now and is just trying to maintain her figure until she begins tour rehearsals in January."
