Noel Gallagher's Blunt view on reaching middle age

Definitive proof the days of Cool Britannia are well and truly behind us.

Not the fact that Tony Blair is leaving Downing Street but Oasis's Noel Gallagher hosted his 40th birthday party over the weekend at the Kitts Club in London's Chelsea.

What's more, Noel and his girlfriend, PR consultant Sara McDonald, were both on best behaviour as they left the club - clashes with photographers have usually been the hallmark of Oasis.

Noel's outspoken opinions on other bands and modern culture have more recently earned him something of an elder statesman reputation, leading NME magazine to dub him "the wisest man in rock".

But he's still capable of looking back in anger after recently saying in an interview his ideal 40th birthday present would be "James Blunt's head".

Brother Liam and his partner Nicole Appleton, Paul Weller and Little Britain's David Walliams were among the guests.
