Paris Hilton begs for jail pardon from 'Governator' Schwarzenegger

Jail bound Paris Hilton is calling on help from high above: the heiress has endorsed an online petition directed to California's "Governator" Arnold Schwarzenegger which begs for a pardon.

It was launched by her pal Joshua Morales in a desperate attempt to prevent the blonde heiress from serving her 45 day jail sentence for driving on a suspended licence.

And the news has already sparked a host of competing petitions across the Internet, debating over whether the reality TV star deserves her punishment.

The news comes as the 26-year-old socialite also revealed she had rehired publicist Elliot Mintz-who she dumped over the weekend after being handed her sentence.

The original petition had already received more than 900 signatures by Tuesday morning after Paris wrote on her MySpace page: "My friend Joshua started this petition, please help and sihn [sic] it."

"I urge all fans and supporters and all that are outraged by injustice to sign this petition."

Paris, 26, was arrested in February when she was found driving on a suspended license after she was charged with drink driving last September.

And following a Los Angeles court case on Friday, Superior Court Judge Michael T. Sauer ruled that socialite Paris was sentenced to serve 45-days in Century Regional Detention Facility in California starting on June 5.

The petition reads in part: "We, the American public who support Paris, are shocked, dismayed and appalled by how Paris has been the person to be used as an example that Drunk Driving is wrong. We do not support drunk driving or DUI charges. Paris should have been sober. But she shouldn't go to jail, either.

"She provides hope for young people all over the U.S. and the world. She provides beauty and excitement to (most of) our otherwise mundane lives."

It adds: "If the late former President Gerald Ford could find it in his heart to pardon the late former President Richard Nixon after his mistake(s), we undeniably support Paris Hilton being pardoned for her honest mistake as well, and we hope and expect the governor will understand and grant this unusual but important request in good faith to Ms. Paris Whitney Hilton," the petition says.

The petition will be presented to Governor Schwarzenegger, who shot to fame as the star of Terminator before later turning his hand to politics, in its entirety before Paris is scheduled to start her sentence.

The Internet continues to be abuzz with rival petitions from fans and foes of jail-bound heiress Paris Hilton alternately asking California Govenor Arnold Schwarzenegger to pardon her or make sure she serves her time.

"We think 45 days in jail is a cruel punishment for the caliber of what she did," said Kyle Vincent, an artist who launched the FreeParis.org Web site

A no-pardon petition urges Schwarzenegger to "ignore other petitions asking for clemency and show the people of California that no one is above the law."

Schwarzenegger's press secretary, Andrew McLear, said the governor had received no formal request to consider a pardon but added, "It would be premature for the governor to become involved in any case until the individual has exhausted their judicial remedies."

Hilton's lawyers filed a notice in court last Friday of their intention to appeal her sentence.
