Paul Newman, 82, says he's had enough of acting

Newman says he's had enough of acting and wants to concentrate on an organic restaurant he has opened in Connecticut
Paul Newman said yesterday that he has given up acting.

The Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid star's announcement brings a 50-year career to a close.

Newman, 82, plans to concentrate on an organic restaurant he has opened near his home in Connecticut.

He was last seen on screen in 2002, starring alongside Tom Hanks and Jude Law in The Road To Perdition.

His last role was as the voice of Doc Hudson in last year's animated film Cars.

There had been hopes he would make another film with Robert Redford, his co-star in Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid and The Sting, but his announcement ends any chance of a reunion.

Newman told Good Morning America: "I've been doing it for 50 years. That's enough."
