Penny Smith brushes aside her bad hair morning

Penny Smith is the first to admit she has the occasional "bad hair day" and it was clear today she was experiencing just that.

Penny recently revealed the show's 6am on-air presenters all style their own locks each morning, adding that being "left to our own devices" sometimes has less than impressive results.

Last year the star, whose hair has been long, short, fringed and even permed, trimmed her mane into a severe elfin crop.

On the fringe: Penny's feathered look failed to thrill viewers

She says: "I've always been adventurous with it - a look through any photo album bears evidence to a rather bewildering array of styles - and some of my haircuts reduced me to tears."

And while her hair always ellicts attention, she says she doesn't spend too much time pondering over her next look.

She quips: "It's not up there with deciding to invade Poland."
