Plan B named songwriter of the year at the Ivor Novello awards

Plan B was today named songwriter of the year at the Ivor Novello awards.

The 27-year-old singer, pictured, from Forest Gate, also had the most played song on the radio for his hit She Said and won the album award for The Defamation of Strickland Banks. Plan B, real name Ben Drew, said that he valued the award more because it was about creativity. He added: "It's about the real talent, not about how many records I've sold."

But he said he was still having trouble breaking the US: "It's been really hard. I'm too white for black radio stations and too black for the white radio stations, so nobody knows where to place me on radio."
