And who could blame him? With his attention distracted by the bikini-clad bronzed women surrounding his £101-a-day kingsize lounger at the pool club which is popular with celebrities and footballers.

The popular footballer, who has "categorically denied" any involvement in the scam to help a football pal beat a driving ban, appeared to have left his cares behind him, as he enjoyed a post-season sunshine break.

Batchelor Sheringham, 41, who split up with Celebrity Big Brother star Danielle Lloyd earlier this year, is currently at a loose end after being released by club West Ham at the end of last season when his contract expired.

But it's clear he's found an interesting way to occupy his time.

Sheringham, 41, was arrested last month with two of his former teammates, Bobby Zamora and Shaun Newton, on suspicion of perverting the course of justice for allegedly giving false details about a speeding offence.

The former England striker's lawyer Henri Brandman said: "For the avoidance of possible doubt, my client has not been charged with any offence. He categorically denies the allegation that has been made."

He faces up to six years in prison if found guilty.

The former England striker, was awarded an MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours last week for services to football, in tribute to a professional career dating back 23 years, and involving almost 950 matches for club and country.
