Porridge fans accuse BBC of 'giving in to the PC brigade'

The BBC has been accused of "giving in to the politically correct brigade" after allegedly censoring remarks from the prison comedy Porridge.

The sitcom was first aired over three decades ago, a time where little was made of it's many risqué comments.

But thirty years on, one particular comment has provoked outrage - because it was omitted.

The character Fletcher, played by Ronnie Barker was constantly poking fun at his fellow inmates, particularly camp chef Lukewarm (Christopher Biggins).

However outraged fans have claimed that a remark has been removed from the repeat of the show.

They claim that the comment "that sort do, don't they", which referred to Lukewarm's pristine cell, was removed from Saturday's show to avoid offending homosexuals.

Porridge fan Michael Solihull wrote to The Daily Telegraph to voice his disapproval, "It is the political correct brigade taking over," he said.

Actor Christopher Biggins described the decision as "one of the most anal things I've ever heard."

A BBC spokesman said: "We always endeavour to transmit classic comedies in their original state.

"However, on rare occasions due to viewer complaints or running time we make a slight edit."
