'Pregnant' Christina Aguilera forced to cancel shows

Singer Christina Aguilera has cancelled a number of shows in Australia after being struck down by illness.

The star, who is reportedly four months pregnant with her first child, cut her performance short on Friday night before then pulling out of two more shows in Melbourne.

Amid health fears, doctors order immediate bed rest for the performer, who was diagnosed with a viral upper respiratory tract infection, a high fever and abnormal coughing.

She said in a statement: "Unfortunately, I have fallen ill with a bad flu virus. This is one of the best cities in the world to perform in and I am truly disappointed that I won't be able to share my show with you all."

She continued: "Thank you for all of the continued love and support, and I hope to perform for you all again next time."

Aguilera, who has not publicly confirmed she is expecting a baby with husband Jordan Bratman, made no effort to hide her bump during earlier performances.

Sources say her on stage costumes are being altered weekly to cater for her blooming stomach.

Her Back to Basics world tour is scheduled to end in New Zealand next week, but it is not yet clear if she will carry on with remaining dates.
