These astonishing pictures show just how identical little Suri Cruise is to her mother Katie Holmes when she was the same age.

Suri, the 20-month-old daughter Holmes mothered with her film-star husband Tom Cruise, has the exact same doe eyes, chubby cheeks and bowl haircut as her mother did 27 years ago.

In fact the phrase like mother like daughter has never been more fitting.

Miss Holmes, who like her husband has never been shy of the chance of a bit of publicity, showed this picture from her family album to U.S. TV viewers on 'Good Morning America'. She had been on the show to promote her new movie Mad Money.

In another interview yesterday, Holmes, 29, told U.S. chatshow host David Letterman that she wouldn't stop daughter Suri from entering the world of acting.

She said: "She's very smart, she's already talking a lot.

"You can see she is already a wonderful artist. Whatever she wants to do, if she wants to act, then yeah, if not, whatever."

Of parenthood, Katie said: "It is beautiful to become part of that club. It's sweet, and suddenly your life is just magical."

The actress is also full of good wishes following the news Tom's ex Nicole Kidman is pregnant to husband Keith Urban.

She said: "I'm so happy for her. It's wonderful."

Perhaps the comments will ease tensions between the pair following Katie's recent revelation that Nicole's adopted children with Tom now call her "mom".

The news was thought to be blow to the Oscar winning actress, who has moaned in recent times that 14-year-old Isabella and 12-year-old Connor only call her Nicole.

Holmes rose to fame as Joey Potter in teen drama Dawson's Creek from 1998 to 2003.

The star can be currently seen starring alongside screen legend Diane Keaton and Queen Latifah in crime movie Mad Money.
