Rolling Stone Ronnie: My fears for Pete and Kate

30 March 2007
In their heyday the Rolling Stones certainly shook up the establishment so perhaps modern day hellraisers Pete Doherty and Kate Moss should heed a warning from Ronnie Wood about their notorious lifestyle.
At the opening of an exhibition of his drawings and paintings of his wife Jo at his Mayfair gallery Scream, 59-year-old Ronnie touched on the subject of Doherty's habit of painting in his own blood.

Ronnie Wood and wife Jo: Ronnie has expressed his worries for friends Kate Moss and Pete Doherty
The veteran rocker said: "I worry about Pete, like I worry about Kate, because she's a lovely person and I want her to stay on an even keel.
"She's got enough problems of her own without having to deal with other people's."

Wood, a painter himself, added: "When I meet Pete he's a soft spoken soul. I don't know what his frustrations are.
"I'd say to him, 'Yes, paint in blood, but you're jumping the gun by using it as your first medium.'
"You can't just start with people's blood when there's as much blood in a pencil. I'm sure if he knew he could do as much with a brush and a guitar he'd be great."

Wood says he has no complaints about critics of his art, which is hardly surprising given his paintings sell for as much as £120,000.
Other guests included new Royal Academician Tracey Emin, eager to cast an expert eye over Wood's offerings.
