Sergeant ‘just reads paper’ says Arlene

Strictly Come Dancing judge Arlene Phillips today said John Sergeant was more interested in reading the paper than practising his dance moves.

Shocking news: John Sergeant with partner Kristina Rihanoff on the BBC show

Phillips claims the ex-BBC journalist, 64, is not taking the competition seriously enough. She told BBC Breakfast the celebrities put in "hours in the practice studio" adding: "I know I am sure with John he sits and reads The Guardian.

"A lot of time he and his dance partner spend fooling around. I hope this does not go on to the final." She and her fellow judges, who labelled him a "dancing pig in Cuban heels", were stunned last night when the public kept Sergeant in the BBC show and Cherie Lunghi was given the boot.
