Sian Lloyd named 'Rear of the Year'

TV weather forecaster Sian Lloyd said today that she was "honoured" to be the oldest woman ever to be crowned Rear of the Year.

At 49, Ms Lloyd, who was once engaged to Liberal Democrat MP Lembit Opik, pipped younger contestants to the post in an online poll.

Ms Lloyd now joins a star-studded list of Britain's superior posteriors, from fellow Welsh singer Charlotte Church to Denise van Outen and Javine Hylton.

Ms Lloyd admitted that she gave little thought to her figure but liked to be well-presented.

She said: "I eat like a pig and I can't stand the gym but I do look after myself - I'd be groomed even if I worked in a supermarket."

She added: "I'm even more honoured now I hear that I'm the oldest woman ever to win this. Fifty is the new 30, I suppose."

A keen skier, swimmer and walker, Ms Lloyd keeps herself taut with regular charity treks.

Organiser Tony Edwards said many voters in the online poll - which was held to support the charity Beating Bowel Cancer - compared her to the hotpants-wearing duo The Cheeky Girls. One of the pop twins, Gabriela Irimia, is now in a relationship with Mr Opik.

"Looking at her and previous winners, could you honestly say she doesn't look every bit as good as all the others - perhaps better?" Mr Edwards said.

Despite being just over half Ms Lloyd's age, television talent show winner Lee Mead, 26, scooped this year's male title.

The winner of the BBC's Any Dream Will Do competition, which found a new star for the West End musical Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, said: "It's such an important cause and although I feel a bit overwhelmed, it's great to raise awareness.

"I keep my bum in shape by plenty of gym visits - and, of course, doing eight performances of Joseph a night."

Tara MacDowel, of Beating Bowel Cancer, said: "We as a nation still find it difficult and embarrassing to talk openly about bottoms even more so to discuss a condition such as bowel cancer.

"But it is crucial to break down the taboos associated with the disease, which is why the collaboration with Rear of the Year is such a fantastic opportunity."
