Single again...and Jude is acting the playboy

But sources now say that their three-month relationship has come to an end after Jude, 34, jetted off to the Cannes Film Festival alone.

Kim, a 38-year-old divorced mother of two and editor-at-large for Harper's Bazaar magazine, was left in no doubt about her position when Jude flew to the festival by himself.

The actor then set tongues wagging when he made a beeline for Dukes Of Hazzard actress Jessica Simpson at the party for soccer film In The Hands Of Gods.

He also partied into the early hours following the screening of his new movie - and stopped by at a Playboy bash where he clearly enjoyed the scantily-clad crowd.

Kim, former wife of American aircraft tycoon Robert Hersov, was said to be "a little miffed" when Jude jetted off without her.

"It was basically then that she knew the relationship was over," said a friend.

"Kim's a classy lady and wasn't impressed. Jude was clearly up for having a good time and was very much the single guy in Cannes. After the recent trip they enjoyed to India, Kim thought it might be something more long-term. Sadly not."

Jude has told friends he wants to focus on his film career.

A close friend of the star revealed: "Jude said the relationship with Kim wasn't that serious. There was a flirtation but as far as he was concerned it was just a bit of fun.

"He's tired of the love rat label and just wants to knuckle down and get on with some serious acting which is his real passion'.

A spokesman for Jude confirmed that the actor is now "happily single and very focused on his work".

It seems Kim won't be missing much in the kissing department. According to reports Jude is such a poor performer that it took him three days to perfect his on-screen smooch with singer-turned-actress Norah Jones in his new film My Blueberry Nights.

"Jude just couldn't get it," says an insider.

"He has to kiss Norah awake, and it took countless retakes and three days to get right."
