Sir Anthony Hopkins to sue film company for £365,000 unpaid wages - plus interest

Hollywood star Sir Anthony Hopkins is suing Merchant Ivory Productions for failing to pay him £365,000 wages - again.

The company allegedly owes Hopkins the sum for his work in a film called "The City of Your Final Destination."

Hopkins signed onto the film last October and was to be paid in full for his performance by 10th January 2007, court documents claim.

He is seeking compensatory damages of £365,000 as well as interest, attorney fees and "further relief as the arbitration panel may deem just and proper."

But this is not the first time the Welsh icon has made claims of non-payment.

He first filed the claims in April.

He also claimed that the firm had reneged on payment for the cast and crew as well as himself.

Merchant Ivory are yet to issue a statement regarding the latest events.

In April they told the World Entertainment News Network: "Fortunately, Anthony Hopkins is ill-informed and just plain wrong.

"All of our Argentine cast, crew and entire production costs of that shoot were paid promptly some months ago.

"This is Tony Hopkins' fourth film with Merchant Ivory - two big hits back to back and a best actor Oscar nomination for The Remains Of The Day.

"By his own admission, he had one of his happiest ever filming experiences working with us in Argentina.

"Stormy sequences like these come and go in independent film production.

"He ought to know. He raged at us in the press after Surviving Picasso, yet we did not have to coax him to accept his very good part in City of Your Final Destination - a commitment by him that we are confident he will not regret."
