Sixties rocker Billy Fury outsells Take That and Mark Ronson to crash into Top 10

It's now 25 years since Liverpool's original '60s heart throb died but Billy Fury is set to make chart history with the release of a new greatest hits album which has raced into the Top 10 album chart.

His Wondrous Story: The Complete Collection has this week outsold Kanye West, Foo Fighters, Mark Ronson, Take That, Amy Winehouse, Michael Buble and Britney Spears, making it the the surprise hit of 2008. The singer was so big at the height of his fame that Beatle John Lennon nervously approached him in the early 60's for an autograph and he was compared to Elvis Presley. He was also a hit on the big screen appearing alongside Ringo Starr and David Essex in the classic Rock 'n' Roll film That'll Be The Day.

His biggest UK hit single, Jealousy, is now in the process of being remixed as a result of the surprise chart position.

Billy Fury became an overnight music sensation in the late 1950s when his moody brand of rock and roll earned him the nickname of Britain's Elvis Presley. Fury's stage performances and sexual charisma left his female fans screaming for more, cementing his place as Britain's number 1 teen idol. His hits included Maybe Tomorrow, Wondrous Place, A Thousand Stars and In Thoughts of You.
