Slappy Christmas: Tanya hits out at Stacey after affair with Max is rumbled

As with every Christmas in Albert Square, doom and gloom appears to be the order of the day again this year in EastEnders.

A year after their affair began, Stacey Branning (Lacey Turner) and her new father-in-law Max's (Jake Wood) sordid secret is finally exposed in an explosive Christmas Day episode.

Stacey and Max first hooked up last Christmas after the market stall trader was dumped by boyfriend Bradley (Charlie Clements).

Christmas fireworks: Bradley (Charlie Clements) is set to find out his new wife Stacey (Lacey Turner) had an affair with his father Max (Jake Wood)

After ending their five-month affair in the summer, Stacey reunited with Bradley, who soon proposed and the young couple wed in November.

However, just before leaving for her honeymoon, Stacey and Max shared one last kiss - which unbeknownst to them was being filmed by his daughter Lauren's video camera, hidden on a shelf.

On Christmas Day, the newlyweds, the Slaters and Dot Cotton join Max and wife Tanya (Jo Joyner) and their three kids to watch the wedding DVD.

After Bradley and Tanya are confronted with their spouses' infidelity, all hell breaks loose.

Tanya, who only gave birth to the couple's third child Oscar two weeks earlier, slaps Stacey in a fit of anger.

She tells Max their marriage is over and tells daughters Lauren and Abi to pack their bags because they are moving out.

A defiant Max begs Tanya to stay, but as the couple tussle on the landing, Tanya loses her footing and falls down stairs.

A panicked Max calls daughter Lauren to call an ambulance as Tanya lies bleeding at the bottom of the stairs.

Actress Joyner explained: "Everyone's in shock and nobody's quite sure if they've heard it right.

"Dot's there, Mo's there, there's a whole room full of people. Tanya's just in utter shock because it's the first time she's actually seen physical proof and there's no getting away from it – her usual denial and his usual way of talking her round just can't happen."

The explosive scenes will air on BBC1 on Christmas Day at 6.20pm and 8pm.
