Soap star Gillian's boyfriend guilty of assaulting hotel receptionist in Barbados

The boyfriend of soap star Gillian Taylforth has been found guilty of assaulting a receptionist at a Barbados hotel.

Geoff Knights, 52, may now face a stint of community service when he returns to the UK following a family holiday on the Caribbean island. He was also ordered to pay an undisclosed fine.

Magistrate Ian Weekes found him guilty of slapping the receptionist at the Tamarind Cove Hotel, where he is staying with Taylforth and their children, aged seven and 14.

Cyanda Phillips, 25, accused Knights of hitting her in the face and throwing a phone at her on Saturday after a row over whether Knights's son was allowed to use a hotel computer-Knights had denied the charges.

Taylforth reportedly said: "I'm just trying to have a holiday with the kids. I wasn't there when it happened. I was by the pool with the children. It's ruined my holiday."

Taylforth, 51, who starred in East Enders and Footballers' Wives, has endured a stormy relationship with Knights. The couple hit headlines in 1994 when they lost a libel trial against the Sun newspaper which claimed she was caught performing a sex act on Knights in a layby.
