Strictly Come Dancing's Bruce Forsyth 'to be knighted'

Honour: Bruce Forsyth is to be knighted
Strictly Come Dancing presenter, Bruce Forsyth, is expected to be knighted in the Queen's Birthday Honours.

Forsyth, 79, is to receive the honour for services to showbusiness after a career spanning six decades, according to a report in The Sun.

The news comes after fans launched an online campaign calling for the star to be honoured.

It was backed by Bruce's Strictly co-host Tess Daly, 36, who revealed how the charismatic former tap-dancer's energy leave her gasping.

She said: "If the lifts aren't working at the BBC we have to climb three flights of stairs. Brucie doesn't break a sweat, while I'm behind him hyperventilating.

"I cannot understand how a man who has been in showbiz for 60 years is not a Sir. It's about time."

The star - who turns 80 in February - heaped praise on Stricty Come Dancing winner Alesha Dixon during the show's finale, saying that the former Misteeq star could be "Britain's Beyonce".

Fans of Bruce - who already has a CBE - signed petitions on the 10 Downing Street website and set up groups on social networking site Facebook calling for him to be honoured.

More than 4,000 signed the petitions, including Alfreda Pearson, 71, of Coventry, who said: "I have been entertained by Bruce Forsyth for 50 years.

"I am mystified by the fact that dozens of inferior musicians and entertainers have received knighthoods while Bruce, who is still bringing joy and laughter to millions, has been overlooked."

Bruce is currently in talks with TV bosses to decide whether he will continue presenting the show next year.

Rumours have been rife that the three-times married TV veteran will decide to throw in the towl after five exhausting series.

He recently admitted: "Retirement is always at the back of my mind. I think I'll know when is the right time to stop.

"When I walk on to a studio floor, I still feel as though I'm 35 .

"But there'll be one night when I walk out, trip over, fall on my face and the first aid man comes. That'll be, 'Thank you and good night!'"
