Tearful Amy Winehouse returns home after visiting husband in jail - and has to crawl under the gates because she's lost her keys

Lying on her back on a wet pavement and in a flood of tears troubled Amy Winehouse has certainly lost something.

But on this occasion, however, the only thing the fallen star noticed was missing was the keys to her house.

Amy, 24, today returned to the property she shared with locked-up husband Blake Fielder-Civil after moving out on Monday claiming it held "too many memories".

But after a 30-minute visit to the jailbird in London's Pentonville Prison earlier this afternoon the crying jazz singer realised she had no way of getting in.

However, never one to eschew drama, Amy decided the best way of getting inside would be to crawl under the courtyard gates.

So, with the waiting crowd of paparazzi who have become a daily feature of her life, she lay down on the wet pavement and wriggled through.

The star, who had been living with friends in Bow, earlier her house in Camden, north London at 3 pm to make two-mile trip Pentonville where Blake, 25, is awaiting trial on assault and perjury charges

Wearing a leather jacket, blue jeans, yellow stilettos and the same pink vest she had been spotted in last night, the soul diva appeared to be in good spirits when she was picked up in a BMW saloon car.

But no less that 30 minutes after her departure, Amy returned with tears rolling down her face.

"It was bizarre," one onlooker revealed.

"When she got out of the car she was visibly upset and started looking around for her keys.

"Then she sat down on the ground with her back against the gate, lopped to one side, lay on her back and crawled underneath the gate.

"I was surprised she managed to get herself under there but she managed to get through.

"After that she dusted herself down, opened the gate to get a bag from her driver and went inside."

The extraordinary gate scenes are the latest example of the star's increasingly erratic behaviour recently.

At 4.15am this morning she was pictured making a dash to a 24 hour store in Bow to pick up a giant box of ice pops.

Celebrity pal Sadie Frost arrived at the Bow residence at 6am after a distress call from the troubled star.

On Tuesday evening she entertained fellow junkie musician Pete Doherty at her new place in Bow.

Amy is not said to be coping well while her 25-year-old husband is in Pentonville Prison, where he is awaiting trial on assault and trial-fixing charges.

Last week her UK tour was cancelled after a series of shambolic performances in which she slurred incoherently and stumbled round the stage.

On Sunday she wandered the streets barefoot in the early hours wearing just a bra and jeans.

The following day she was seen walking around outside without shoes, asking builders for cigarettes.
