In the new M&S television campaign, Twiggy displays a virtually flawless face and a variety of sleek outfits in a bid to attract the attention of a 1940s style matinee idol played by Latin heartthrob Antonia Banderas.

Twiggy, real name Lesley Lawson, is the oldest M&S model - she is followed by Richard Gere's ex Laura Bailey, who at 35 is 23 years younger.

The remainder of Twiggy and Laura's co-stars are all in their 20s - France's Noemie Lenoir is 28, statuesque Erin O'Connor is 29, while Sir Mick Jagger's model daughter Lizzy is just 23.

Low-key: Twiggy hides her crows feet behind purple sunglasses

At the launch of the redesigned M&S Pantheon store on Oxford Street this morning, Twiggy went for the natural look as she joined store manager Mark Goodson and M&S CEO Stuart Rose to cut the ribbon.

Twiggy has made no secret of her wish to age gracefully and has publicly spoken of her dislike of "poisonous" Botox and has likened breast enlargement surgery to "putting something foreign in your body".

The 58-year-old also insists she embraces her wrinkles - despite M&S' attempts to digitally-removed them in their ad campaigns.

In 2004, Twiggy said: "I'm grateful for my lines of wisdom. Of course, there are days when I think: 'Oh my gawd, I look a bit tired.' But I can pull it together if I have to."

Next year, Twiggy is set to launch a fashion and beauty bible for the 'mature' woman, entitled Those Fab Forties, Fifties and Sixties.
