The TV hunt for Mr Average

A quest is under way to find the most ordinary individual in the country.

The search is being conducted by a team of documentary-makers who have drawn up a list of key traits that make up the life of Mr or Mrs Average.

They have compiled 21 questions to identify suitable candidates, concentrating their efforts on 'ordinary' locations including Swindon, Romford and Slough.

Mr Average is a family man - like the TV father in 2.4 children

The Channel 4 programme, called Average Briton, aims to celebrate 'hard-working, honest and straight-forward' averageness rather than ridicule it.

The producers say those who answer Yes to the majority of the 21 questions could potentially be Britain's most average person.

The 30-minute show, due to be broadcast in August, will show the pool of potential candidates whittled down until a winner is found.

The questions are:

Do you know the words to God Save the Queen - first verse and chorus?

Are you married with two children?

Is your house worth £190-210,000? Do you own a Ford Fiesta?

Do you work over 40 hours a week?

Do you have nine-14 close friends?

Do you consider yourself working class?

Does your home contain a Harry Potter book? Are you repaying debts totalling more than £3,000 (excluding mortgage)?

Do you take one foreign holiday a year?

Do you live in a semi?

Do you know how to cook at least four meals?

Do you drink three cups of tea a day?

Does your commute take 20-30 minutes?

Do you believe in God?

Do you have more than 80 contacts on your mobile?

Do you have three or more TVs?

Do you go to the toilet six times a day?

Do you sleep about seven hours a night?

Do you think you're a good driver?

Do you do less than 30 minutes' exercise a week?
