The Zimmers score a new fan... George Clooney

Ageing British rock group The Zimmers have won a rather high profile new fan - George Clooney.

They came face to face with the Hollywood superstar while appearing as special guests on US chat program The Tonight With Jay Leno Show.

Of the 40-strong group, lead singer Alfie Carretta, 90, Winifred Warburton and Norma Walker, both 99, made the trip to America for a the television interview.

Clooney was on the show to promote his latest movie Ocean's Thirteen but happily took time out to pose for photographs with the band members back stage.

The Zimmers, who have a combined age of 3,000, were formed as part of a BBC TV documentary and their version of The Who's My Generation was an instant a YouTube hit.

Alfie has said her new found fame: "The whole experience has brought me back to life. I was stuck in a rut and now I feel alive again."

"I just hope any groupies can't run too fast - I'm surprisingly light on my feet for a fat man, but I'm not the swiftest."
