Three pregnant pauses, now Helen Baxendale stops for good

Her current role alongside Christian Slater in Swimming With Sharks could be the final curtain for renowned British actress Helen Baxendale.

The 38-year-old, who played Rachel in cult classic Cold Feet and starred in smash hit American comedy Friends, is planning to retire so that she can focus on being a full-time mother.

"I haven't got any parts that I am taking on at the moment. I am spending all of my time with my children," she told me at the show's opening-night party.

Helen has three children – Nell, nine, Eric, six, and one-year-old Vincent – with husband David Elliot, whom she married in 1998.

The star's pregnancies have caused a number of hiccups in her hugely successful career.

Her character Emily was written out of Friends after Helen fell pregnant with her first child, and her second pregnancy meant the script for the fourth series of Cold Feet had to be rewritten.

Although she may not be acting, Helen is planning to do some work behind the camera.

"I have set up my own production company called Shooting Pictures and we are funding a project called Beyond The Pole," she revealed.

Her last screen appearance will be in Bono, Bob, Brian And Me – a spoof docu-film about a rock star's crusade to save the planet.

It has already been shot and is due for release next year.
