Three's a crowd: Demi Moore celebrates her toyboy husband's birthday - and ex Bruce Willis comes too

The unlikely trio dined at a LA restaurant on Saturday, along with Demi and Bruce's children Rumer, 19, Scout, 16, and 13-year-old Tallulah Belle.

Far from being uncomfortable, Ashton and Bruce, 52, appeared to revel in each other's company and even indulged in a moment of playful wrestling.

The Hollywood actress has remained close to Bruce since they split in 2000 after 13 years of marriage, but she has confessed that they all struggled to adjust to the new family arrangement.

She told V magazine recently: "It wasn't a piece of cake. It wasn't automatic or easy. It took diligence and effort and even enduring awkwardness, and a lot of general giving on my part and Bruce's part.

"And really, tremendously, on Ashton's part. Coming into my life, Ashton just wasn't meeting somebody that had baggage. You know, I had trunks!"

She added no longer feels bitter towards her ex, saying: "It's far more exhausting to be angry and blaming. You can dig deep within yourself and really have a desire for someone else's happiness, which I feel I do have for Bruce and he has for me."

For his part, Bruce has said: "Demi and I have been the best of friends since our divorce and I'm honestly great friends with Ashton too.

"We just hit it off and I think he has a great sense of humour."

The duo have bonded over their desire to provide a good environment for their children.

Willis is a devoted parent to Rumer and has been fiercely supportive of her in recent years.

He has encouraged her to pursue an education at UCLA, as well as supporting her ambitions to become an actress.
