The 22-year-old brunette, who plays mouthy barmaid Lauren Wilson, joined the cast in October as the fun-loving younger sister of Violet Wilson (Jenny Platt).

When Corrie bosses originally signed Evans to the cast, they planned for her character to remain on the show after the departure of Platt in February.

Bye bye baby: Lucy Evans' character Lauren Wilson is being written out of Weatherfield

However, after the character of Lauren failed to appeal to viewers, producers decided to write her out.

An ITV source told the News of the World, "This is a big blow for Lucy. She came on the show with a contract of a few months but the clear expectation that it was going to be renewed and she'd become a Weatherfield fixture when Violet left.

"Sadly it just couldn't work out that way. Her character always seemed a little out of place and never gelled with the other stars, especially in the Rovers."

Lauren's place behind the bar at the Rovers will be taken by Becky Granger, played by Katherine Kelly.
