TOWIE's Sam Faiers and Joey Essex split
19 July 2011
The 'Only Way Is Essex' co-stars - who were recently rumoured to be engaged - are officially on a break after growing tired of living "in each other's pockets" since they began dating during the second series of the ITV2 reality show.
However, that wasn't the only reason for the shock split, as Sam admits she started to resent having to "mother" the 20-year-old hunk.
She said: "We're on a break. Basically all relationships are tough and since series two me and Joey have been in each other's pockets. But the schedules are to blame.
"He needs to sort out what he wants for the future: his management, his schedule, everything. He was always more concerned about me than himself, and - although it is nice to be put first - I didn't want it to be like that. I wanted him to be independent. I took on this mothering role."
But Sam has not ruled out the couple getting back together, admitting it could happen if Joey takes her on a "make-or-break holiday".
She added to Star magazine: "He's gorgeous but we spent so much time together so quickly, that the spark went just as fast. But I reckon we could get it back.
"He needs to take me on a make-or-break holiday, so I can decide, judging by how we get on, whether it's worth sticking around. If you can spend every day with them, drinking, eating, relaxing, and not get bored or irritated, then you'll know they are a true partner."
Just last month, the seemingly loved-up couple revealed they had already picked out names for their future children.
Sam said: "I want four children. We've already picked out our names for the girls. The first one's going to be Maggie and the second one Heidi. I can't wait to be a mum."
