Transformers prepare to storm box office

There's more than meets the eye when it comes to the 2007 remake of the 1980s cartoon classic series Transformers.

This time round it's a dazzling array of CGI and special effects which are to set to make the £50 million film a monster hit.

The warring aliens cause chaos in the streets

In the film, warring alien machines go head to head, with the Autobots battling to destroy the evil forces of the Decepticons.

The highly anticipated flick also features human characters, including I Robot's Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox and Las Vegas star Josh Duhamel.

The film combines live-action and CGI technology

Director Michael Bay said: "It's got a lot of action, but at the same time it's very funny and it's got heart. I only wanted to do Transformers if I could do it realistically."

To that end, he employed cutting edge technology to bring the robots to life.

Those behind the film are expecting it to be a monster hit: two sequels have already been approved by the DreamWorks studio.

Transformers is set to hit screens in the UK this July.

The film reportedly includes some of the original voices from the 80s series
