The King of Pop and actors Brittany Murphy, Natasha Richardson, Patrick Swayze and David Carradine were among famous faces from the film industry featured in a montage of remembrance.

But Charlie's Angels star Farrah Fawcett, who lost her long battle with cancer last June, was noticeable by her absence.

She was best known for her TV role but did appear in movies including The Cannonball Run, Extremities and The Apostle.

Veteran US film critic Roger Ebert noticed the snub almost immediately.

He Tweeted: "No Farrah in the memorial. They have a lot of 'splaining to do."

The images appeared on a giant screen as country star James Taylor played Your Smiling Face.
