The actors in the original trilogy last acted together in 1980's The Empire Strikes Back.
Since then Ford has achieved the most success in his acting career, with starring roles in a string of movies including 'Blade Runner' and 'Patriot Games'.
At the age of 64, he is preparing to film the fourth installment of the Indiana Jones Adventures with Cate Blanchett as his leading lady.
Fisher, who became a male fantasy figure for teenage boys and grown man everywhere with her turn as Princess Leia Organa and those lovely hair buns in her second-ever film, has carved out a successful career as a writer.
Born into Hollywood royalty (father Eddie Fisher left her mother Debbie Reynolds for Elizabeth Taylor), Fisher's personal life has had its' turbulent moments, including a stint in rehab to beat drug addiction in the 1980s.
From this experience came her first best-seller, Postcards From the Edge, which was made into a film starring Meryl Streep in 1990.
Hamill was unable to capitalise on his initial success as a leading man, but continues to act and has found work as an animation voice actor in the animated 'Batman' TV series.
The cast last met two years ago for a Vanity Fair photoshoot.
