Yoko Ono will speak up for Spector in murder trial

Yoko Ono will be a character witness at the murder trial of hitmaker Phil Spector. The widow of Beatle John Lennon will join Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards to testify in defence of Spector, 67, as he faces life in jail.

Spector once fired a gun over Lennon's head during a stormy recording session in Los Angeles. Lennon reportedly said to Spector: "Phil, if you're going to kill me, kill me. But don't f*** with me ears. I need 'em."

Spector produced Lennon's album Imagine and also worked with Richards. Spector is accused of shooting B-movie actress Lana Clarkson at his Los Angeles mansion.

He claimed Clarkson, 40, put the gun in her mouth and pulled the trigger. Prosecutors will try to prove next week that he shot her as she left.

The producer, who suffers from schizophrenia, has a track record of pointing guns at friends and demanding they stay for fear of being alone.
