The India captain and leg-spinner must be delighted that his country's cricket board decided not to call their team home in light of Harbhajan Singh's ban for allegedly calling Andrew Symonds a 'monkey' during the Sydney Test.

Historic achievement: Kumble celebrates dismissing Symonds for his 600th Test wicket
Having met Australia captain Ricky Ponting to negotiate a truce between the warring teams, Kumble joined Shane Warne and Muttiah Muralitharan in reaching a memorable career milestone.
He did it by having Symonds caught at slip for 66 to break the all-rounder's century partnership with Adam Gilchrist which had threatened to revive the hosts, who had earlier been 61 for five in response to India's first innings of 330.
Australia eventually slumped to 212 all out and the tourists established a 70-run lead with nine wickets in hand by the close of day two.
'It means a lot,' said Kumble, of his latest personal achievement. 'You never think when you start that you'll reach that milestone. When you start, people don't even think you will last two Tests.'
Jumping for joy: RP Singh, who claimed four wickets, enjoys taking the wicket of Brett Lee
Gilchrist, the Australia wicketkeeper, added: 'I've always found him a real pleasure to play against. He's very clever with those subtle changes in flight and his position on the crease. He's just trying to create a little bit of doubt in the batsmen's mind. It's a real credit to him to get that achievement.'
Altough Ponting's men are 2-0 up in the series with one further match to play, they were hoping to register a record 17th successive Test victory. But India are seemingly well-placed to halt the winning streak.
