Abramovich decides to back Portugal in Euro 2008

Roman Abramovich has decided to follow Luiz Felipe Scolari and his Portugal team for the rest of the European Championship.

The Chelsea owner watched his new manager guide Portugal to the quarter-finals with an impressive 3-1 win against the Czech Republic and was so entertained he now wants to stick with 'Big Phil' in the hope he reaches the final in Vienna on June 29.

Abramovich will also take in the Russia games. He has tickets for most of the matches and a private helicopter enables him to cover the considerable distances across Austria and Switzerland. Scolari should take it as a huge compliment.

Abramovich missed a succession of matches towards the end of Jose Mourinho's reign at Chelsea because he became disillusioned and was absent for large chunks of Avram Grant's tenure.

But he clearly enjoys Portugal's football and the entertainment his new Brazilian manager provides when his team score.
