AC Milan reject Chelsea request for talks with top target Ancelotti
31 May 2008
AC Milan have refused to let Chelsea talk to their coach Carlo Ancelotti about taking over as the English club's coach following the dismissal of Avram Grant, Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani said on Saturday.
"He has not met Chelsea, because the English club asked for our permission and naturally everything stopped there," Galliani told AC Milan's Web site.
Wanted: Coach Carlo Ancelotti
"He and another Italian coach were at the top of Chelsea's list," he added. Sacked Inter Milan coach Roberto Mancini has also been named in the media as a possible candidate for the vacant Chelsea job.
"The fact that our coach is sought after and esteemed pleases me a lot but Carlo Ancelotti will remain Milan's coach," Galliani said.
Grant had his contract with Chelsea terminated last Saturday, three days after his team were beaten by Manchester United in the Champions League final.
United also pipped Chelsea for the English Premier League title, while Tottenham Hotspur beat them in the League Cup final in February.
Grant took over from Jose Mourinho and held the coach's job for just eight months.
