Adebayor: Carragher should have seen red

Emmanuel Adebayor has angrily hit out at the performance of referee Howard Webb, claiming Jamie Carragher, and not him, should have been sent off in yesterday's controversial 1-1 draw between Arsenal and Liverpool.

The striker believes Webb - whose display was labelled a 'joke' by boss Arsene Wenger - cost the Gunners victory against the League leaders and he hinted the Yorkshire official could have dealt them a hammer blow in the title race.

Adebayor has urged Webb to review the second yellow card issued for a challenge on Alvaro Arbeloa, even though FIFA rules prevent an appeal against the decision - and insisted that Carragher and Reds team-mate Lucas should have been dismissed instead.

He said: "At least one of the players from Liverpool deserved a red card. A player like Carragher just always making a foul, a player like Lucas in the middle made a lot of fouls. I have maybe made two fouls and got two yellow cards, which is not fair."

Adebayor, who was booked in the first half for a tackle on Emiliano Isnua, was also furious with Arbeloa's reaction as he threw himself to the floor despite minimal contact.

He added: "I hope when the referee goes home and watches it on the TV, he will see it was a foul but I didn't deserve a card. The defender threw himself on the floor as if I put a knife in him. I cannot say he cheated but it wasn't fair play."

When asked if Webb's decision to send him off robbed the Gunners their chance of winning, Adebayor said: "Of course."

Gunners boss Wenger risked the wrath of the Football Association with his assessment of Webb's performance. He said: "Every week when we play away from home people say teams get in our faces and we can't cope with it.

"Do you want me to show you our players when we play away? It is a joke. The first booking wasn't justified either. It is just unbelievable."

Meanwhile, Wenger dismissed reports he would leave to join Real Madrid at the end of the season and that Arsenal would make a January move for Manchester United's on-loan striker Carlos Tevez.
