Adebayor refuses to board plane and insists: I'll only fly with the president

striker Emmanuel Adebayor refused to board a plane for Togo's latest World Cup qualifier because he was convinced it was going to crash.

Ahead of tonight's clash with Zambia, Togo skipper Adebayor insisted the absence of the president of the country's football federation on the flight confirmed a rumour that he had heard that the plane would come down during the 400-mile flight.

In a scene reminiscent of the film Final Destination when a group of students exit a plane they believe to be doomed,  Adebayor had already convinced many of his team-mates not to take the plane and said:  'My life is very dear to me and if we have to go down we'll all go down together with the president.

'There are rumours that if we get on the aircraft will go down.'

Togo federation president Tata Avlessi Adagio de Mass, with whom Adebayor has clashed over disciplinary matters, said a family bereavement prevented his making the flight, sparking the astonishing team refusal.
