Agents' dispute threatens to throw Spurs' capture of Gomes into disarray

Snags: PSV keeper Heurelho Gomes
Tottenham’s bid to sign PSV Eindhoven goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes has become embroiled in a major dispute between the Dutch Champions and three agents.
Serbian Vlado Lemic and Brazilian Renato Gaucho, who works with another Brazilian agent, all claim to be entitled to a share of the transfer fee Spurs are willing to pay for Gomes.
It is believed that such are the complexities surrounding the future of Gomes that despite his performances bringing him to the attention of some of Europe’s biggest clubs, Spurs are the only side willing to try and cut through the considerable amount of red tape.
Although hopeful the wrangle will not scupper the deal to bring Gomes to White Hart Lane, Spurs must wait for it to be sorted out before any progress can be made. In addition, the disagreement is also likely to impact on the fee.
Thus far, Tottenham have offered just £5.5million for Gomes and are willing to let Young-Pyo Lee move in the opposite direction for £800,000.
However, mindful of the percentage they may ultimately have to pay to his representatives, PSV have set and asking price of £8m for Gomes plus their former player Lee.
A meeting between Spurs representatives and PSV last week failed to break the log-jam while the Dutch club have warned the three agents pursuing their cut that they must halve their claims, with some sources suggesting they want up to 50 per cent of the transfer fee, if the deal is not to be placed in jeopardy.
The hold up is not only frustrating for Spurs manager Juande Ramos but also for Paul Robinson who finds himself in limbo until a deal for Gomes can be thrashed out.
Robinson is due for further talks with Aston Villa manager Martin O’Neill this week over a move to the West Midlands club. But Spurs are unlikely to sanction Robinson’s departure while their move for Gomes hangs in the balance. Furthermore, Tottenham are looking for a fee in the region of £5m for the former England No 1 while O’Neill rates him at around £2m less.
