Ali Carter joins the 147 club

Snooker's maximum men share the Crucible stage today as they bid to reach the World Championship semi-finals in Sheffield.

Only 24 hours after Ronnie O'Sullivan recorded the seventh 147 break in Crucible history, Ali Carter made it No8.

O'Sullivan and Carter will have to split the £147,000 bonus for a maximum and the £10,000 on offer for the highest break. But Carter has other things on his mind as he leads 2002 champion Peter Ebdon 9-7, needing to win six more frames for a place in the last four.

O'Sullivan resumes his quarter-final with China's Liang Wenbo locked at 4-4. Stephen Hendry is 11-5 up on Ryan Day while Stephen Maguire and Joe Perry are level at 4-4.
