Although the Newcastle boss has yet to be given permission to speak with the versatile 31-year-old, Allardyce is confident their offer will be accepted.

Newcastle will give a medical to Abdoulaye Faye, 29, today and expect to complete the £2m signing of the Bolton midfielder.

Allardyce is also looking at Paris Saint-Germain defender Mario Yepes, 31, but is not keen on his £2m asking price.

Michael Owen will continue his comeback today in a training-ground friendly.
