Allardyce maintains silence despite 'flattered' by Blackburn speculation

Sam Allardyce has admitted he is flattered to be linked with the managerial vacancy at Blackburn but has maintained his silence over holding talks with the club.

The former Bolton and Newcastle boss is believed to be in a head to head with MK Dons manager Paul Ince for the job following Mark Hughes' departure for Manchester City.

Allardyce, who was interviewed for the vacancy on Thursday, said on ITV1: "It's very nice to be linked with the job, of course.

"But at the moment, it's just speculation."

With Rovers icon Alan Shearer having ruled himself out of the running, Ince has emerged as the popular choice for the role.

MK Dons have already refused to allow Leicester to speak to Ince about the vacancy at the Walkers Stadium, though it is thought they would not stand in his way were Blackburn to come calling.

For Allardyce, the main problem is overcoming long-standing hostility among Ewood Park fans to his tactics.

Rovers supporters regard their club as adopting a more cultured approach than they feel was on offer during Allardyce's time at the Reebok.

Allardyce's excellent record at Bolton is a fairly substantial counterweight, although his ill-fated stint at Newcastle has not done much for his reputation..
