Alner hears doubts about Listener

Robert Alner was last night unsure whether he will allow The Listener to start in today's James Nicholson Champion Chase at Down Royal.

The trainer is worried the ground may be too fast for his gelding, who won last season's Lexus Chase on heavy.

Alner: Trains The Listener

The grey is unlikely to start if it becomes good to firm.

Alner said: "I'd reserve the judgment whether to run or not if that was the case."

The Listener faces stiff opposition from Ryanair Chase winner Taranis.

Nigel Twiston-Davies reports Ollie Magern to be in great shape as he tries to win the Charlie Hall Chase at Wetherby.

The trainer said: "He seems in the form of his life. We're very hopeful for him.

"Two years ago he broke a pastern and he had to have a bolt in it.

"That started playing him up which is why he hasn't run since the King George (last year)."

Scoop6 players are chasing a massive Bonus fund of £1,027,955, the fourth biggest in the bet's history.

To qualify for a shot at the pot next week, punters must pick the winners of this afternoon's six nominated races.
