Alonso rage at Lewis carve-up

World champion Alonso, clearly shaken by Hamilton's dazzling debut season, went public on his deepening frustration after his team-mate's victory in Sunday's Canadian Grand Prix.

Poles apart: Alonso (left) and Hamilton are at loggerheads as they go head to head for the world title
Alonso, who is eight points behind leader Hamilton in the drivers' standings, said: "I've not been comfortable with everything from the start.
"It's an English team, with an English team-mate. You know that all of the help goes his way. I've understood that from the first moment."
The Spaniard was also ungracious about Hamilton's faultless maiden win at the Gilles Villeneuve circuit in Montreal, saying: "Lewis's win was good for the team, but it was very lucky as well."
Nigel Mansell, Britain's 1992 world champion, believes Hamilton now has the psychological edge. "I don't think anyone can compete with Lewis at the moment," he told legends website sportasylum. "The only person he has got to beat is Alonso and he's already done that.
"What impresses me most is the fact he has Alonso rattled. It's remarkable."
Alonso can hardly claim to have been penalised this season, given the preferential treatment he received at last month's Monaco Grand Prix.
McLaren's strategy helped him gain crucial pole position, before he was controversially guaranteed victory when Hamilton was ordered by team boss Ron Dennis to slow down rather than fight for the win.
Hamilton, 22, won widespread sympathy for his predicament after revealing the team instructions at the post-race press conference.
Alonso's outburst forced McLaren into a desperate damage limitation exercise ahead of this weekend's American Grand Prix.
Dennis said: "We are made up of extremely passionate and competitive individuals and there is a healthy competition between the teams working on each car. This is inevitable and there are no issues with that.
"However, I can categorically state, once again, that both drivers have equal equipment, support and chance to win within the team. Both Lewis and Fernando support this.
Happier times: Alonso and Lewis celebrate
"Fernando's comments when read carefully are correct. He hasn't been with the team long and the relationship can only continue to develop. The team is not going to do anything to jeopardise this positive and growing partnership."
Despite Dennis's soothing words, Alonso betrayed the pressure he is feeling during Sunday's race. The 25-yearold repeatedly veered off the track at the opening corner and finished a lowly seventh.
Earlier in the season, two of Alonso's inner circle walked out of the McLaren garage during qualifying. His manager left abruptly in Malaysia, blaming a pro-Hamilton fervour among the mechanics. There has also been strong speculation that Alonso has insisted that Hamilton should sit out various test days.
Alonso will not be cheered by the fact that the next race is at Indianapolis. Although it is one of Formula One's easiest circuits, he has finished only one race there and was fifth last year.
But Alonso, knowing there are 11 grands prix remaining, refuses to accept that he cannot overhaul Hamilton to claim a third consecutive world crown.
He said: "I'm relaxed, though I know I am expected to dominate. I have clear options for winning the title, which is what we want. I'm not moaning. I've won two races out of six and I've finished on the podium four times and I have those 40 points that will allow me to fight to the end.
"I would be in a worse situation if I were at Renault or Honda or any other team."
Alonso also took a swipe at the media reaction to Hamilton's triumph in only his sixth race. Asked for his reaction to the coverage, he replied: "I'm totally indifferent to it. We know how they are and I'm glad the Spanish press have a little more respect than the English ones."
