Anderlect approach unsteady Spurs but Tottenham may have enough UEFA Cup points already
04 December 2007
But it may be that they have already collected enough points to advance from the round-robin element of the competition for a second successive season.
Six points guaranteed progress in last season's tournament and Bayer Leverkusen and Fenerbahce even advanced with four so wins against Hapoel Tel Aviv and at home to Aalborg may mean Spurs have enough to go through whatever the result.
Qualification for the next round would be a welcome boost for struggling Spurs who have made their worst league start since 1976-77 - the season when they were last relegated.
Manager Juande Ramos watched as his defence conceded an injury-time goal for the sixth time this season as Birmingham left White Hart Lane with maximum points from a 3-2 victory on Sunday.
"It's difficult, but these things happen," Ramos said. "We attacked well, we had many chances, much more than Birmingham but we lost."
With Spurs' defence still weak without injured captain Ledley King, Ramos is likely to keep the emphasis on attack against Anderlecht, who won the UEFA Cup in 1983.
The Belgians went close to successfully defending their crown in 1984 but were beaten in the final by Tottenham when Tony Parks pulled off a memorable diving save to win the cup in Keith Burkinshaw's last game.
Striker Robbie Keane is available despite being sent off against Birmingham but Darren Bent is a doubt after limping out of Sunday's game.
