Andy Murray to join forces with brother Jamie in bid for Olympic glory in Beijing

Andy and Jamie Murray today revealed they are joining forces to bid for Olympic glory this summer.

World No 11 Andy will also compete in the men’s singles in Beijing and is committed to forming a potentially outstanding partnership with his older brother, the reigning Wimbledon mixed doubles champion.

The Murrays offer Britain a medal-winning opportunity in China and the chance to emulate Tim Henman, the former British No1, who won silver with Neil Broad at Atlanta in 1996.

Jamie said: “I am sure we will get in because of his high singles ranking. Not everyone is fortunate to play at the Olympics, and to be able to stand side by side with your brother playing for your country will be an amazing experience.

“Hopefully, we can also do that in the Davis Cup for Great Britain and get us back into the World Group.

“In any team, it’s important to have a leader on court in the doubles and with Andy I have normally been in control of things like the tactics.

“It’s not as if Andy’s not comfortable with that kind of control, but if he tells me where he thinks I should be serving then I am going to listen.

“I am sure it will work out okay for us and I suppose I could just mention in conversation that I have won a Wimbledon doubles title.”

Andy, meanwhile, was hoping to put his pre-Wimbledon injury fears behind him today when he took on Serbian Janko Tipsarevic in an exhibition game at the Boodles
Challenge in Buckinghamshire.
