Angry Gilbert gets heavy over injured Murray's critics

Brad Gilbert has dismissed claims that Andy Murray's wrist injury is the result of playing with a racket that is too heavy for him.

Murray has pulled out of the French Open, which starts on Sunday, because of damaged tendons in his right arm.

The British No1 will now leave it until the last possible moment to decide if he can take part in the Artois Championships at Queen's Club, which starts on 11 June.

Gilbert, Murray's coach, insists the injury is a freak accident. He said: "This injury is purely bad luck and I have no idea why people are saying it's got something to do with Andy's racket.

"I played my entire career with a super heavy racket and never had a problem. Andy got injured playing one shot using a racket that he has always played with. End of story."

Meanwhile, the Lawn Tennis Association have finally completed the sale of Queen's Club to the members for £35million.

The Artois Championships, owned by the LTA and Inbev, will continue to take place there and part of the deal will also require the club to invest £4m over three years into junior and community sport projects.
