Sunderland have suffered another close season injury blow after defender Paul McShane suffered a broken kneecap on holiday.
Just days after learning that player of last season Kenwyne Jones could be out for nine months, Sunderland boss Roy Keane now fears McShane will miss the start of the new season.

The club have not released details of the incident which resulted in McShane's injury but the Republic of Ireland international was rushed back to the North East for emergency surgery.
Glenn Rae, the club doctor and head of medical said: 'It was a very complex fracture but we managed to get Paul back with us straight away so he could get the best possible attention.
'The operation was a success and Paul will now undergo intensive rehabilitation during the course of the pre-season and we're hopeful he'll be able to return to action by the start of the new season.'
McShane was selected for new Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni's first two games in May, despite missing most of the last four months of the season after he was dropped by Keane.
The former Manchester United trainee signed for Sunderland from West Brom in a £2.5 million deal last summer and played 20 games, mainly out of position at right-back, before he was left out by Keane at the turn of the year.
